UGOCHUKWU SHINES BRIGHT AT MUGELLO
A very positive first round of the Euro 4 Championship for Ugo Ugochukwu, who drove brilliantly over the whole weekend, taking home two victories and a second place. Two exciting battles in the first couple of laps of Race 1 and Race 2 saw the young American driver execute a very well-thought strategy, which then put him on a great position to chase down and overtake the leader of the race in both occasions.
Fast since Day 1 at the Tuscan Circuit of Mugello, Ugo proved to be quick and to have the pace to challenge for a win since the beginning of the Free Practice session on Friday..
The McLaren Junior qualified in third place for race one and on the front row in second place for both race two and race three. A great result that put him in position to contest for race victories over the weekend.
An eventful Race 1 saw Ugo start in P3 and immediately engage in a brilliant battle with US-Racing’s Sztuka and Bohra, leading the race. The Prema driver made his way up to P2 very quickly, overtaking Singaporean driver Bohra in P2, in Turn 1 of the first lap of the race. The chase to P1 was made although very difficult by a strenuously defending Sztuka, who performed brilliantly the whole length of the race, until the last lap when in defending from Ugo’s attack he had to get off the optimal cornering line in Turn 1. This put him on the outside line for Turn 2 and USA’s Ugochukwu did not need to be asked twice – he took the very last opportunity he had and dove on the inside, taking the lead of the race and crossing the line in first, conquering the first win of the weekend.
In Race 2, the 16-year-old New Yorker profited of a P2 grid start to chase down a leading Arvid Lindblad in P1, and managed to stay in front of the pack until the moment he crossed the line, securing the second win in the Euro 4 Championship.
The victory of the last race of the weekend was kept in “Casa Prema”, but was taken home by Ugochukwu’s Australian teammate James Wharton, while the already two-time victorious Prema driver had to settle for second, after racing his heart out and fully committing to take home clean sweep.
Ugochukwu’s phenomenal performance and his outstanding tactical awareness, made of this first ever Euro 4 Championship Round a great experience, earning him the lead of the championship.
