Ugo Ugochukwu takes maiden Formula 3 podium in chaotic Spa weekend
In the third-to-last round of the FIA Formula 3 season at Spa-Francorchamps, Ugo Ugochukwu put on a stellar drive in the sprint race to gain four positions en route to his first podium of the season.
Ugo started off the weekend well by setting the fourth best time in practice before putting his car sixth on the grid in a delayed qualifying session on Friday.
On Saturday, Ugo started seventh in the sprint race and it didn’t take long for him to make up ground in the 12-lap race. After overtaking two cars in the first three laps of the race, Ugo made a decisive pass around the outside of the Les Combes complex on lap four to rise up to third.
However, Ugo’s charge didn’t end there as three laps later, he used his DRS to get up into second place, which he held until the end as he took his first ever podium in FIA Formula 3.
In the feature race, Ugo started sixth, but after two laps of excessive rain hitting the track and many drivers going off, the final race of the weekend was red-flagged and ultimately wouldn’t be resumed. Ugo was classified sixth, but no points were given as a result of the brief duration of the race.
A breakthrough weekend for Ugo Ugochukwu, who aims to end his rookie year in FIA Formula 3 on a high with two rounds left. Make sure not to miss the next round this weekend at the Hungaroring on August 2-3!
