Ugo Ugochukwu clinches F3 title in dramatic fashion

After a season-long fight for the FIA F3 crown, Ugo Ugochukwu defied expectations to clinch the most important title of his career ahead of the next step of his career.

Heading into the Madring finale of the 2026 FIA F3 season, Ugo was second in points and still in contention for the overall crown. The American’s weekend at the newly-opened venue in the Spanish capital began with a strong fourth-best time in the only practice session.

Then came the weekend-specific two qualifying sessions, in which Ugo demonstrated his street track prowess by posting the fourth- and second-best times in the two, as his main title rival struggled.

From ninth on the grid in the partially-reverse sprint race on Saturday, Ugo stood his ground and had a clean race, as he crossed the line in his starting position, before being promoted to eighth after post-race penalties. Then came the first of two feature races later that day, in which the American star had a clean race amid chaos to place himself level on points for the championship with a fourth-place finish.

In Sunday’s second feature race, Ugo gave it everything around the tight streets of Madrid, which paid off beautifully as he crossed the line second on the road to secure the FIA F3 crown, as the first American champion in series history.

In a season filled with drama, Ugo proved his ability as a world-class driver to lead the standings for most of the season and take crucial wins and podiums in key points of the season to secure his second title this year.
